GDP posts a 2.4% growth in the first quarter of 2022

Tunisia's real gross domestic product (GDP), seasonally adjusted, posted 2,4% year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2022 (January-March). The percent change from preceding quarter is estimated at a 0.7%. Converted to an annualized growth rate, the latter rate is in line with the economic growth momentum during the recent years.

Although these data reflect in general a gradual recovery, particularly in a context marked by rising challenges, they nevertheless eclipse diverse sectoral profiles. In fact, economic growth has benefited above all during the first quarter of 2022 from the continued pattern towards the normalization of activity in the mining sector and also from a tangible improvement in activities related to tourism industries. While activity remains at a relatively moderate pace in manufacturing and has fallen in the construction sector. . .

Moreover, the positive outcome of this trajectory is that, two years later, the level of real production at the start of 2022 finally reached that recorded in the first quarter of 2020, just before the widespread of the COVID-19 pandemic but still remains below the level of GDP at the end of 2019.
